"Death is the road to awe."
– The Fountain (2006)
A closing piece for my solo show MOMENTS
, which opened June 7th at NYC's Bottleneck Gallery and ended on June 28th! I had an awesome time doing this series and can finally start uploading everything here...
This painting was inspired by Darren Aronofsky's strange and massively ambitious effort The Fountain
. The scenes involving the "spaceship" were some of the most spectacularly beautiful I'd ever seen (MANY of the scenes were stunning); IMO the film itself wasn't always successful on a conventional level (needed some work on the editing and the script), but I really appreciated the director's vision and ambition, and overall it's a moving study of grief and death. And the soundtrack (just like Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream
) is out-of-this world gorgeous and memorable (listen to the song
that inspired my title!)
