This is a page out of one of my sketchbooks, done completely on impulse with india ink, pencil, and some red acrylic paint. Interestingly enough, Threadless picked this design up so it's now available on a shirt!PURCHASE THIS T-SHIRT HERE
I found myself just staring at it for the upwards of 5 minutes just trying to take everything in.
Ever the painter, alicexz usually sticks to realism, but this piece caught me off guard, it's a surprisingly enticing abstract/surrealistic piece i wasn't expecting, and I love it!
Vision~ The composition is absolutely beautiful in this piece, and although inspired by fashion, i caught a bit of a deeper meaning.
Originality~ i've seen some artists use the same style, but this piece is one all it's own, the obscured eyes also suggest an underlying theme such as identity.
Technique~ *alicexz's bold use of color, mixing mediums, and this GORGEOUS texture really add to the piece. Daring strokes of both paint and the pen give a simple sketch life and expression, the fact that the limbs are disjointed and kind of blend into the background and dress of the painting give it an abstract feel. Already on t-shirts, this image could go very far.
Impact~ I usually have a tough time with this category, i've saved a five star rating for pieces which move me to tears, provoke lasting thoughts for me, or keep me coming back to the same piece continuously. But this picture is beautiful, original, and thought provoking, in my book, an awesome piece.
